Question How add power to a lt1 ( 1995 z28)

HELLO PEEPS I GOT A ( 1995 Z28 A4 3.23 POSI ALL STOCK ) I wanted an LS1 at the time but i just bought this instead it was the only Z28 available near me anyways i got a Goal for this car it is 350rwhp (Rear Wheel Horsepower ) and 350rwtq (Rear Wheel Torque) atleast. But the more HP & TQ the better the car has been garaged since september 2008 due to the leaking of antifreeze from ?????? and leaking oil ????? and a slipping tranny the car has 142,000 miles so im just gonna rebuild/overhaul it fresh! ! ! ! ! ! then i plan to make it BALLZY and i would like to know your view on this kit here at---> http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...&ProdID=222292 Iv'e Been told its outdated and overpriced is it? it has a disclaimer that says its a proven 425+HP if it can put me at that i gotta have it even if i need to buy the correct throttle body as mentioned also as you know i got the ( 4L60E 4-speed Automatic Transmission ) Iv'e Been Told the tranny can't handle even 350hp so how can i make it stronger to handle atleast the 425HP of course im gonna do Long Tube Headers
( Full Exaust probably a 3Inch True Dual or Single ) im gonna get the 96'-97' SS Ram Air Hood along with the Cold Ram Air Intake i found um both

If you search "LT4" you will find most think it is one of the most over priced mods you can buy. The 425+ is probably fly wheel since the Camaro with the factory LT4 in it made about 330 rear wheel HP. Almost everyone here will say to have your heads ported by one of the professional and get a cam to match. This will leave you with plenty of money left to buy a stall, gears, exhaust and whatever else you decide you need. I know the 4L60E is capable of a lot more than 350HP. It might be a smart idea to upgrade but thats your call.

STOP, you are far from ready to start modding.

You need a lot of other mods before you look at heads and cam.

IGNORANCE is the ONLY excuse for using the LT4 HOT kit.

The tranny needs a good builder, not a builder who throws lots of parts at it. LOTS of guys claim to be capable of building it but few actually are. I use Pro-built.net, FLT is very good too as is Rossler.

Going to need a good stall, I like Edge, Yank and Vigilante are good choices too.
Going to want to go into the rear 3.73s are the most common choice.
Going to want a larger TB, rebored stocker52/54mm or aftermarket 58mm.
Racetronix fuel pump and wiring.
Larger injectors 30-37lbs is probably about right.

Things you might be told to change but should NOT. fuel pressure regulator and MAF, the stock ones are the best choice for most builts, especially one this mild.

Going to want to pay some attention to the suspension, otherwise wheelhop is going to break the gears or differential.

www.advancedinduction.com can deliver a lot more power for similar money to the LT4 HOT kit. Matter of fact in a T56 car thay can give you over 425RWhp yes rear wheel for about the same price as the LT4 HOT gives you 425 flywheel HP for. They make more torque than most other options too.

Start with the bolt ons, CAI, cat back, headders, tune. Then move on to the engine. 1.6 rockers, heads, cam. You are going to spend a few 1-2k on bolton's, and probably about 3k or so on heads/cam and rockers with all the supporting pieces that go along with it.

I agree that getting the LT4 conversion kit can be a waste of money. If you are getting just the LT4 Hotcam kit(cam, roller rockers, springs); I think that is money well spent. The LT4 hotcam is a decent cam for the money.

Maybe, but why not get a bigger cam if you are going to go through all the effort.

The springs in the kit are fine for light LT4 valves but insifficient for the heavier LT1 valves, making them marginal at best on an LT1, meaning you should buy different springs and making the kit far less of a "deal".

you may want to check about that hood fitting your car, I'm sure if you do a search you can find something.

Are you going to be rebuilding the motor????

I'd do as Klrz28 said and look at lloyd elliot....With stock internals an le2 will get ya to 375ish RWHP no prob and 410ish RWHP with one of their cams. I'd also look at promagnum 1.6 RR's

EDIT: Lloyed Ellit will also port your stock LT-1 intake so it'l breath better.

And also as 96capricemgr said look at a new throttle body.....BBK is a popular choice. I'd also look at a full exhaust as Red96Lt1 said. Have fun!!!!!

If you plan on rebuilding the motor you could go with an LE3 and expect some where around 425ish RWHP with heads and a cam.

I'd post the link for it but i'm not sure what the sponsor policy is on this forum......some forums it's a big no-no.

No prob but I couldn't really help you with what internals to get with a rebuild.
I didn't think there was anything wrong with a new MAF but 96capricemgr said it's not a good idea.
For an exhaust lots of people go with pacesetter LT's, ORY, and a cat-back of your choice.
I would also highly recommend a tune after all of this stuff.
Have fun eating those stangs!!

id love to have a stock lt1 that makes 350RWHP AND 350RWTORQUE....i think you need to learn about your engine before you start modding it.

Do you know what an opti-spark is?

Did you even read the post? (Granted it wasn't the easiest read ever), but No Where did he say anything about his stock lt1 having 350 hp\tq.. His GOAL is to reach those numbers or higher. I do agree with you that you should know about your car before you go ripping into it, but also, what better way to learn about it than by taking it apart and putting back together? lol.

To the OP, just read and learn man, theres soo much you can learn by just reading thru this forum (and others). and generally everyone will give you pretty good advice. It looks like you'd be on the right track with your basic bolt-ons first and a nice heads\cam package. AI and LE are the ones a lot of guys go with, and they seem to return pretty nice numbers.
