Trey -- My engine and tranny was pulled from the bottom in less than 4 hours, using only hand tools in my garage. A friend of mine and I did it. You just have to take your time and be patient.

When it came time for the installation I installed the engine and tranny together in 4 hours also. It was a piece of cake. Like Shawn said, "click your heals". I bolted the tranny to the back of the fully assembled motor (wiring harness, headers, plugs, wires and all), then placed the tranny/engine on the K-member and rolled the entire thing on a wooded dolly right under the front of the car.

Have you ever tried an engine removal from the bottom? Just because you don't see it happening in @4 hours, does not mean that it can't.

It took me a while to at first. I labled every connection, and bagged everybolt. I was in no rush......I helped a buddy take his out the next week. I new exactly how to go at it and we had it on the stand in about 6 hrs. That included dinner and messing around with those damn stock manifolds for almost an hour too.

the front suspension goes together a hell of a lot easier than you would think. i was suprised how easy it was to get back together.

thats a load of crap as far as i'm concerned.

I beg to differ. Working alone, without a lift, with just a 3 1/2 ton jack and a set of jack stands, I dropped the motor from the bottom in four hours. And historically, I'm a slow wrencher Most importantly, no blood loss

That was the first time around. With an extra set of hands and/or a lift, the motor can be dropped in even less time.

Let's just put it this way, it was so easy, I would seriously consider dropping the motor from the bottom to swap plugs/wires. For something like a cam swap, it's a no brainer!

its going to take you an hour to get the car up safely
Let me get this straight, you can pull the motor from the top by yourself, but it takes you an hour to get the car up on jack stands?

BTW, all it takes is a total of 10-bolts (four of them for the shocks) to re-install the front suspension/K-member.

Jim,
If you don't mind me asking.... how exactly do you go about dropping it through the bottom? Any "how to" links or words of advice on doing this. I've always pulled them through the top but then again... everything up til now has been old and with plenty of room around the motor.
I have a new motor and I'll be installing it hopefully by the end of next month, that's why I'm curious.

Thanks

Ken posted a nice link on his site:

Basically, just disconnect the six K-member bolts, shock towers, and tranny cross-member. Of course there are the little things, like the driveshaft, steering shaft, torque arm, a/c lines, etc.
