Hotcam vs. XE224/230 Poll

Emissions is an issue. Streetability is an issue. I want a driveable car for around town that can waste all the idiots with their turbos and nitrous and all the junk. I will be keeping stock heads.

My XE224/230 is sitting at home waiting for install, i did alot of research and it should fit the bill for what your looking for. Make sure to get it on 114 LSA tho if you need to pass emissions.

Both will do the trick, but the XE224/230 has more potential.

I like something in between, the XE218/224, but the XE 224/230 is a great cam.

What's the RWHP difference between hotcam kit and a 224/230 with 1.6 rr's and everything else that comes with the hotcam?

224/230. It's a great street cam with tons of low end power and pulls up to around 6200 rpms. Any future mods will compliment this cam very nicely!

With 1.6 rr's, springs and stock heads the Hotcam puts down about 325 rwhp and the XE224/230 will put down closer to 340 rwhp with stock heads.

That's assuming that you have full exhaust first (headers, and catback) and a pcm tune.

I voted 224/230, more power for the money. Just check out Javier97Z28 who runs 12.06 with it on stock heads with an A4. Very impressive and that will be my route to horsepower heaven. But if you dont have headers yet, I do recommend them.

No votes for the 221/227, .542/.560 on a 112?

Can't wait for startup on mine!

If you're staying with the stock heads, the 218/224 will more than likely out perform all other listed cams in terms of driveability, powerband, and emissions. Couple of bolt on cars with the 218/224 making about 343/343 at the wheels now.

Just my $.02

I like the looks of the 221/227 also, but with him having to pass emissions, I think it might be a problem. I wanted to run that cam in my A4, but Seth said it'd be too much without a torque converter.

You will really need headers first to see some good gains from either cam. Without them I don't think you'll be happy with the gains you see from either cam. The 224/230 is the bigger of the two cams, the Hotcam is 218/228. So if your looking for the most power that would be your choice. I'm not going to say the hotcam is the better cam or anything but I'm happy with it so far. It's up to you.
