Hotcam or Nitrous... persaude me

heres the deal, i already have a nitrous kit but im not hooking it up until i buy all the safety things and a 685 etc. anyways, ill need about 600 bucks or so to get the rest of everything for the nitrous.

now ill be gaining around 100 horse with the 125 shot and about a full second in the 1/4.

or..... i can throw a hotcam in for about 700-800 bucks after all is said and done. now i like this, cause the sound is sweet and just idling around with that lope is so fun.lol. but it will get me a nice power increase and pull, and a nice ET.

now lets here yours thoughts on this. i can easily sell the nitrous kit, forget that idea and do the hotcam in a month or so on a single weekend. or i can get all the goodies for the N2O and install that one weekend.

obviously they arent the best thing for a motor, but do you think ill have more problems with one over the other and just in general what sounds better. looking for some oppinions and experiences. thanks

How many miles on the car. I would do the n20 right now, since you already have the kit. Nitrous is farely safe, as long as you buy all the safety equipment, which it looks like u will be doing. I would wait, rebuild the motor and do a bigger cam. The hotcam sounds a lot meaner than it really is.

IMHO I would put a small amount of nitrous on an older motor before a cam. With the cam you are going to introduce new parts to old parts and probably be getting dirt and crap in there, even if a small amount. Also with a cam you will want to spin the motor higher.

N20 will make crazy power even in the lower range of the stock setup.

I had n20 first, then sold it and did the cam. Motor didn't last long after the cam and made way more power one the nitrous. Who is to say what was at fault.

Cost wise I see them as @ equal.

My thoughts though....

motor is about 100k. seems to run real strong, has all mods in sig. dont let the E/T full you, its not the greatest track and i cant hook the pig up.lol

but yea im realizing that i dont have to unbolt anything on the engine but the TB for the nitrous plate.

i plan to mount the bottle in between the rear seats, what do i do with the excess amount of nitrous line? its made to go all the way in the trunk so i will have a lot left. just wind it up and make sure its not kinked?

I'd definately go with the spray. Think of it this way. Putting a HotCam in will at the most get you 35rwhp.... Nitrous on the other hand will throw 100hp to the ground. You will retain the same fuel mileage and no one will ever know you have nitrous but a cam is definately audible.

I would just finish the nitrous install, you are already halfway there. As for using up slack in the line, you could just try routing it differently where it has to take a longer path to get to the nitrous solenoid to use up some of the extra length.

I have been wanting to do a comp 306 in my car, but I decided at 100k+ nitrous would be better. I am saving up after my nitrous to rebuild my motor and do a cam over the summer. I would definately say nitrous is the best bang for the buck, esp since you already have the kit.

keep the n20 then save up for a cam..... money always comes around one way or another.

HSW makes some affordable, quality kits. Can't go wrong there.

Do it right, have it last, and then rebuild whenever.

if you run the hot cam the power will always be there if you use the nitrous you will only see the power when you stop and turn the bottle on. I love my hot cam, it makes great power that i can use all the time.
