Hotcam for $50

I came across a brand new hot cam for $50, Would it be worth it to add this to my mods or should I wait and put a cc503 in it? He also has a brand new lt4 intake manifold for $300 are they worth the money?

$50 is a pretty good deal, but keep in mind you will still need springs, retainers, and at least pushrods. The lt4 intake will not work without lt4 heads the intake runners are taller on the lt4's.

Is it a stock LT4 cam or an LT4 hotcam? They are not the same thing.

LT4 hotcam that comes with the hotcam kit. I already have lt4 springs and retainers and its a 94 so it should have hardend pushrods.

Well, the LT4 springs won't work with the cc503, so unless you want to buy new ones, you might as well get the hotcam.

ooooh... i misread your post #4. I though it read "that LT4 hotcam comes with the hotcam kit" Meaning it was the whole kit for only $50.

I wouldn't buy it.

are you buying this from someone you know or on here? I know of some scammers on this site and would be leery of any deal that good.

Where are you going to get a cam for $110? Not TR I don't think.

He would also need all new springs and roller rockers.

The only things I am concerned about is that people say the springs that come with the hot cam wich I have installed right now, are not strong enough for the hot cam? That and the fact that I hear alot of horror story about spun bearing on higher mileage engines when a cam is swapped in?

You have crappy 3-piece "hardened" pushrods. Replace them, get some Comp 1-piece hardened at least.

The hotcam kit springs will work fine with the hotcam. That's why they're sold as a kit.

Many people, including myself, have had bearing problems when installing cams on higher mileage engines. Most failures seem to be caused by running the RPM higher and having more power. There's no way to know for sure if your motor will hold up or not.

I agree about the pushrods as well.
