Hot car....

Posted this on LS1tech, but I"ll probably get better feedback on here....

Got the header install done....and this car moves! Sounds extremely bad *** too. But the question is, now I'm driving the car around and the water temp. gauge is going outta control, it's at like 215-220.....the engine temp. is now a little above the half way mark.

Does anyone have any ideas??

I never drained the coolant while doing the header install.....should I bleed it anyway?

I would not call your temps out of control unless they are way different than they were before, in the same circumstances. Since the temp gauge sensor is in the head, it might be a good thing to check on the welfare of the lead going to it (often a casualty of new headers).

I damaged my lead months and months back, is the solution just soldering on a new pigtail and connector to the wire?

That will certainly work, though if you just have a damaged piece of wire, just splice out the damage. The pig tails are not real cheap. The pig tail is listed in a small database in the wiring section on my page.

But what about my AutoMeter Water temp. gauge, it reads like 240 and used to read like 180?

Well, that would have been good info to post from the beginning. Did you happen to leave your air dam off? What are the precise driving conditions that it gets this high?

Gotta have the air dam on. It will run hot without it.

Thanks, I will put in on tomorrow and take the car out.

the air dam routes air up through the radiator. without it, most of your air will pass right by and go under the car. so your radiator is sitting in a hot void, the only airflow your gonna have is from you fans....
