Hot cam Q?

Ok, I have a question, I have a 94 Z 6 speed, all it has is a intake (K&N style) and a tune by PCM Performance. What do you guys think a hot cam would do for my car at the wheels?? Also, what kind of mileage would I look to get? Just something I'm curious about. I'd like to get in the 350RWHP and 350-400 RWTQ range. But I would like to keep my 25-27 HWY mileage and 14-17 city. Is that possible with this cam? What are you guys getting with a setup simalar to mine?

You are not going to hit that power with the cam, or any cam without more bolt-ons. Get some headers and a good flowing exhaust first. Most hotcam cars I have seen with full bolt ons(exhaust,intake,headers,tune,1.6 rockers, electric water pump) and a good tune usually make around 330 or so. If set up properly it can be a decent cam. But there is much better cams now that can give you more power with the same gas mileage. As for gas mileage, my 306 car with a mail order tune, straight highway with the cruise on can knock out around 22 mpg. In the city, it gets quite a bit worse. The hotcam is a bit smaller, so most of your gas mileage loss will probably come from your foot giving it more throttle with the added power.

+1 for getting all the supporting bolt-ons before you get the cam. With a CC503, 3.73 and a stalled auto I get 15 city/23 highway.

You're looking at ~330-340rwhp.

Get your exhaust fully done (Headers, ORY/Highflow cat, catback) and make sure everythings in good shape, (might consider a clutch if it's high mileage as if its worn already more horsepower will make it wear faster)

I'd recommend at least replacing the timing chain while doing the cam swap. I'd also suggest waiting a year or so and getting to know the car and making sure it's in good order before you give yourself 50 extra horsepower at 16 years old.

+1, really get to know the car before you add more power. I had mine for a year and a half before I started doing major mods.

Thanks guys. I'm not looking at doing anything at this point. I had herd some rumors and thought that someone here would know. Before I go adding more HP; I have to redo my suspension and brakes. I understand that adding power at this point isn't smart. But it is something I will do in the future.

Thanks,
Bryan

Brakes are a must. LT1 brakes suck pretty bad at high speeds.

Yeah they do. I plan on some C5 fronts, and drilled/slotted rotors/new pads for the rear. Should work pretty good. I hope lol

That will probably be more than enough. I am still on stock brakes, I have a LS1 front brake conversion, but just havent got around to installing it.
