Why go small when you can get the 306?

Well, the smaller cams will make the car alot more driveable. With stock heads, 350-360 at the wheels shouldn't be unobtainable with a good flowing exhaust system and a good cold air intake. Port the heads and you can probably get 390-400. Remember, bigger isn't always better, if it was then all Comp and Crane and everyone else would sell would be their full out drag racing cams.

The 306 is perfectly driveable, it makes only slightly more hp and tq than stock down low...It just has a higher idle and more of a lope...At least IMHO.

I guess this is a little off the topic but does anyone know how a ZZ9 cam compares with any of these cams?

I find it hard to believe that going with a 306 cam, you will loose noticeable power down low. I agree the stock powerband which is down low will go away. But thats because it will be pushed up, where you want it to be. But going with the 306 would only make sense that it would still retain HP and TQ down low. I wonder if any actuall CC306 owners can step up and agree or disagree if the camshaft made thier can feel slugish down low?

It doesn't feel sluggish to me. It may not make an extra 100 lbs-ft, but it still makes good power down low. Plus, it revs so quickly that you are in the sweet spot quite quickly...

The 306 will work ok with stock heads, but certainly not the best way to go unless you have 3.42's or steeper. My biggest concern more than anything is that should you go with a 306 and port the heads later, your stock bottom end had better be in good shape, cause you'll have to spin it from 6500-6700 to make the most of the 306. On that note, the least you could do is put a higher pressure spring for the oil pump for some added pressure at higher rpms to keep those bearings happy.

OK, why get the cc 306????? Why dont you get a nice midrange to high end cam from Combination motorsports.. They have a good selection to choose from and they would be much better than the cc 306 and then you could say you have a custom made cam, by the way comp cams makes them too.. I wouldnt go cc306, i would definatly get the custom one, Im gettting a 227-233 560/569 lift and a 112 ISA.. Just my .2

Why not get it? Just to say you have a "custom cam"? The 306 is a proven cam, it makes good power from ~2200 up, and has a killer lope, and is less hard on valve springs and valve train components in general. It's a damn good cam. It's got great seperation on the intake and exhaust sides, perfect for an LT1/4, due to our head design. I've seen some make some incredible power, and have a great mid range too. There's one in D/FW that I know personally who cuts 1.49 60' with a 3000 stall Yank and ET/Drags, and a built rear suspension. It's a great cam, and for me to call it a "custom cam", I'd want to be the one to design it, otherwise, it's a shop's cam, like the Thunder 230 for LS1's... Just my 0.02....

CC306 is going to make the most peak power - period. However, the CC305 drives like stock (even mine, on a 112 LSA) and still runs pretty strong.

so are you guys saying that if I choose to have my a4 shift no higher the 6k im not going to be seeing the big gains? I dunno, but it dont sound right to me. I dont know if some of you are making these statements , from opinion, or fact. Because Im not going to take my car over 6k with that cam. Im going to order my cc 306 this december, I dont think im going to regret it.

Actually, on most engines, it peaks at ~6200-6300, but will make damn good numbers from 2200+, and the curve will rise above the 305 and LT4 HC. I love my 306...

with 3.73's or 4.10's you probably won't notice a loss in low rpm torque. I had a CC305 in my 96 Z28 with 3.42's behind the six speed, and i noticed a difference in part throttle driveability down low(i.e. parking lots, stop & go traffic, etc.). However, any thing more than part throttle was improved, big time. the 305 isn't as stealthy as the LT4 cam, though. Many an old schooler has given me the thumbs up when they heard the car start, but would hardly believe my buddy when he said he had a cam, too. I can barely hear a Hot Cam myself.

so with the CC306, revving above 6300rpm isnt really neccessary to make power when compared to lets say the hotcam or cc305 correct ? For me and some others the cam is a big step and i would rather do it right the first time around. Any other components needed aside from the cam itself ?best place to purchase from ? Thanks a lot to all for the useful information.
