Exclamation HOT Cam Kit came today, what else should I do while I'm in there?

My HOT Cam Kit came in today, I'm waiting on the rest the parts to show up within the next week or 2. I'm doing the 95+ Opti Swap, so I ordered everything needed for that, along with a new stock Water Pump. While I've got everything taken apart, is there anything else I can replace/upgrade while installing the cam. 2 things that came to mind were valve seals and oil pan gasket. What do you guys who have swapped the cam out done?

Valve seals are a good item, but I wouldn't try to replace the whole oil pan gasket, it looked a little tough to swap to me. I reused the main pan gasket and I avoided tearing the front rubber seal as well and reused that, it was in good shape. It's a little tricky getting the timing cover back on without ripping the rubber gasket, just don't rush it is all I can say. I got the gasket kit from Thunder and replaced every other gasket though.

Finished mine up a few weeks ago, and no leaks at all I'm happy to say, and definite sotp feel from the cam

I would replace or upgrade my timing chain. Some also change out their waterpump. If you have the money, get your heads p&p'ed.

Quick question...how much does a new cam affect your gas mileage?

This website gives you all the part #'s necessary for the swap. As far as where I bought everything: I got the Opti from Jason Cromer ($195) and the rest I got from GMPartsDirect.com.

Inspect your pushrods to make sure that they are not bent. You should be fine cause yours are hardend but one of mine was a tad bent so I put in some comp hardend ones. Also inspect your lifters. I am still running my stockers but when I do my heads I will get new ones. You might want to upgrade the springs. Eventhough the kits springs should suffice, I think I might be expieriencing a bit of valve float with mine. Something to consider. Definately valve seals. Remove AIR pump. Really cleans up the engine bay. I painted my Timing Cover, Valve covers, TB & Intake. Car looks great. Good time to do it with the car apart.

I second the head porting, no better time. If you have the money you could do over size valves also.
