Thumbs up Hot cam is installed and running!

Well I just got evrything finished today. Hotcam kit, Loud Mouth, RK Sport headers, 52mm TB, 30# SVO injectors, carsound cat, and pcm for less tuning. Seems to run pretty good. I have a nice exhaust leak where the air tube that connects to the passenger side header that goes to the back of the intake. It seems they would have a gasket on that thing but there isn't. Other than that, It sounds pretty damn loud with the loudmouth. I don't know how long I can live with it, but it's there for now since I'm broke now....haha. I worked on this pig for over a month and my hard work has paid off finally. Now to the dragstrip where I will probably get the boot since I have no cage and it's a convertible. Hopefully my first and only run will be a good one...haha. Time to update the sig, when I'm not feeling so lazy.

Congrats! Don't over look the PCM tuning. A stock tune you can run on with the HC, but its rich .
Let us know the times you run at the strip..

Good point - HC along with 30# injectors... A good bit of power and driveability is left on the table without at least a mail order tune.

You guys all missed the part in my first post that said I have pcmforless tuning. Must be pretty good since I passed emissions with flying colors. I had 0 on hydrocarbons which seems odd to me....haha. Only problem I had besides the exhaust leak was that the tps on the Edelbrock tb needed adjusting. The voltage was too high at wot and it kept setting a ses light and making the trans shift weird. I adjusted it last night and did a few full throttle runs on the interstate real late last night. From a 40 mph roll I couldn't get traction with my crappy worn out Nittos.....haha. Kinda cool to get sideways at 40 mph.....

Re: Hot cam is installed and running!

Did you run any before times.I have 96 vert raceweight was 3800.Best time was 14.3 at 95mph with a 2.18 60ft on nittos. Our track prep was non existant that day and had high headwind.

I had 3.42 gears,a4,tb bypass,magnaflow,hpp tuning out,maft,airfoil,g2 induction,holley filter as mods last season.

This season have sold the nittos ,have some old bfg drags or will try buddies new et street radials.I have a nice 2800 vig to install and underdrive pulley.

I have a zext wet but not sure it will be in this season have some odds and ends to buy for it first.

I also have 1.6 nsa pro mags and CC 305 .Might wait on that till next year and then hopefully do heads the cam and some macs at same time.

I may throw a 58 tb on there and some 30 pounders this year also though.

I would hope to hit 13.5 with my new stall and underdrive and obviously way lower with the nitrous and cam and rockers.I also would be booted for 13.5 it should be at least 12.99 for verts it seems to me.not sure about a rollbar.Removable side bars are ok but the cross brace has to be permanent. That kind of sucks.

Re: Hot cam is installed and running!

Oh if my times seem a bit slow we are at 1900 feet above sea level. So that 14.3 is closer to a 14 flat or high 13 corrected. The 3.42 gears and catback helped the car a lot.It ran 15.0 at like 94 the time before that. And did make several runs and they were all cose to the stated numbers above both times.

So not sure why people say the 3.42 didn't do much ,even in grapes of wrath where they went from 2.73 to 3.42 they didnt' gain much like me.I have always gained 3 or 4 tenths in my cars with gear swaps in that range even 3.08 to 3.42 in my 80 ta.

And tires didn't do all that much wasn't even bothering to heat up the nittos the track was just too slick anyway.

I ran a best of 14.2 around 97 mph with a catback, cold air intake and a LS1 driveshaft. I had regular street tires aired up to 32 lbs and no weight reduction. That was in Arizona on a 80 degree night and I think the track is right around sea level.

Re: Hot cam is installed and running!

Finally made it to the dragstrip today with my new hotcam set up. I ran a best of 13.46 at 105 mph, and I was spinning pretty bad through first gear. I don't know what my race weight was but I had 3/4 tank of gas, sub box in the trunk and I was running on regular old worn out nittos with 32 psi in them, so my car was pretty much in street form. I couldn't make another run after that one because the NHRA rules say that a convertible can't run faster than 13.49 without a 5 point roll bar. I wanted to get a little closer to 12's but maybe next time I'll get some drag radials and hopefully get closer to 12's before I get the boot.....
