hot cam install ?

My buddy just installed the hot cam with ported heads. Now it seems to be surging quite a bit, and there is a fair amount of low end torque loss-any ideas? An lt1_edit program seemed to clean up the idle a bit and restore some of the lost torque, but overall it isnt where we expected it to be..... Is there that much loss in torque with this install? Note: he found a slight oil leak off the back of the manifold, but havent been able to determine if its the oil sending unit or intake.

I noticed a loss of low end torque below 2000rpms, it tends to lug a little when driving in traffic at low rpms etc. After that the torque is much better than before. If the rockers are adjusted too tight you will notice a bigger loss in low end torque from what I've noticed with mine, I just readjusted them and set them at 1/2 turn past zero lash. The hotcam kit instructions indicate to adjust them anywhere from 1/2 - 1 full turn past zero lash? One full turn is way too much I thought, I could barely pull out with out it stalling when I first adjusted them that way.

Thanks for the input! Ive asked him about the valve adjustment as well-seems like the logical place to look-he went 3/4 past 0 lash, maybe he should back that off 1/4 turn? Same characteristics though...... sluggish when you pull out into traffic. Any other thoughts??

3/4 turn after zero, thats too damn tight! I went with 1/8 turn on my stock lifters and it worked fine. btw, if you back them off, you need to adjust lash again, you cant just back it off and retighten the lock.

why cant you simply adjust it back 1/4 turn-isnt the 0 lash threshold going to remain constant?
