hose question

The rubber hose that runs into my throttle body with PRC printed on it seems to be getting little splits where the clamp is and looks to be leaking a bit. I was wondering what fluid runs though this hose and it is will run all over the place when I replace it. Has anyone had to replace this before? Looks like the other end goes into the left side valve cover towards the back of the block. Thanks for the help

That is the stock valve cover breather. If you just buy an aftermarket breather that plugs in where the oil fill is you can remove that hose and plug the holes off, you will be better off doing that anyway, releases more of the crankase pressure to take it off the gaskets.

thabks for the help, I will probably get the breather. I noticed you stay in Toledo, OH. I am a student at UT. I was wondering if there was any f-body club around here to join and hang out?
Thanks for the help.

This? I got a breather from PEPboys that plugs into the valve cover and keeps ALL the oil from going to the TB.

I go to UT also. You probably see another black formula with 18" 5-spokes driving around. My car isnt running but it is a black Z with silver ZR1 rims, both cammed cars. We have our own little club, not really but another buddy has a 95 Z thats getting a carbuerated 400CI smallblock into it this winter, and another one of my buddies at UT has a 98 red trans am. Let me know if you ever need any help with anything we are all pretty knowledgable.

Thanks for the link 1msfyter, I will probably get one on Monday and put it in. jonaddis84, I think I have seen the formula on campus, mine has a a red windshield decal saying formula on my car with the chrome 16 inch rims. Sounds like an awesome project with the 400 block swap, wow. I also have a friend in engineering with a 95 red TA convertable, she works for GM, so if you are looking for parts, let me know, can get them for a pretty good price. Thanks for all the help, maybe I will see you on campus.

Putting a breather on causes a small vacuum leak. The pcm will have to try to compensate for it. Here is a pretty good thread about it.

Thanks for the link shoebox. I do have another question. Looking at the hose that connects to the valve cover, I have some kind of breather on there I think, the hose does not just connect to the valve cover. There is some oil around that aswell, now should I get the breather and replace that hose, or should I take that, what looks to be a beather/fliter right out? and just connect the two. I got my car in April and it had 83K on it and I guess the prevoius owner installed the breather/filter. I know the picture in the post shows the beather hooked up to the TB with the hose still, should I go this way, is it ok?

If someone already put a filter inline to catch any oil, that is ok. Just replace what hose you need to.

It can't hurt to check the PCV valve. If you need a new one, try to get an ACDelco one. Some people have had problems with other brands being slightly smaller in diameter and not sealing to the grommet well.

Sorry to but in on this post, however for clarification, I'm going to.

1....Ok so if my hose that goes from the valve cover to the tb is cracked, should I replace the hose? Or does it matter?

2....If the hose needs to be replaced should I put a breather filter on the valve cover before the hose goes to the tb?

3....Or should I just get a breather for the valve cover and get rid of the hose and plug the hole in the TB?

Sorry if it seems like this question has already been answered, I read the 4 pages on the link that was given above. It seems like nobody ever just came out and said this is the way to do it.

Yes replace it as its letting unmetered air into the engine.

Yes [ I have one in my car] put a breather filter in the valve cover.
It keeps oil out of the throttle body. Any of these three would be OK:
Deutsch Oil Seperater Breather BF412
Purolator B23165
Fram BA 6592
*******
3....Or should I just get a breather for the valve cover and get rid of the hose and plug the hole in the TB?

No as that allows unmetered air into the PCV system.
