Hooker shorty headers install ?
Hooker shorty headers install ?
I recently bought some hooker shorties, but I bought them used so I have no idea how to install them. I've never done a header install on an F body, and I'm having alot of trouble trying to get the headers into place (I have the stock manifolds off).
any help is appreciated
Thanks

Disconnect the battery if you haven't done so already.
Driver's side - remove spark plugs, oil filter, oil pressure sending unit and separate the steering linkage. The header goes in from the bottom. Put it in place and tighten it up.
Passenger side - remove the alternator, spark plugs, starter and the dipstick tube. The header goes in from the bottom. Put it in place and tighten it up.
Make sure the spark plug wires are away from the headers on both sides. You will need to lengthen the wires for the O2 sensors or get extensions.
Put on the y pipe. If it doesn't fit right (mine didn't) I recommend cutting it and letting the muffler shop splice it back together. Hooker recommends not tightening up the headers until you put on the y pipe and then tightening everything up all at the same time. My y pipe fit so badly that it would have never sealed right. When you replace the alternator, don't try to reuse the bracket that goes to the header bolt. You will be okay without it.
Since you bought yours used, make sure you have the flange that has to be welded to the cat to bolt it to the Y pipe.
