take the bolt out of the engine mount, you might have to jack up the engine a little to get the bolt out, after you get the bolt out jack up the engine as high as you can jack it and then the header will slide right in.
you might have to undo both mounts to get the engine to raise, i did

I put a jack under the bellhousing, but I have an M6. If you have an A4, you might want to jack it under the oil pan or the k-member. You removed your steering linkage already, right?

i went in through the bottom on both sides. did you undo the stering linkage?
you might have to take out the oil filter. and also dont slide in that pipe that comes seperate until you get the header in. it takes some wigglin to get the pipe in but it will fit.

I removed my steering linkage, oil filter and the heat shield for the abs lines. I did have the slip-fit out, like ericz28w mentioned. Mine slid right in. My passenger one slid right in after I jacked up the motor, but I had to jack it up pretty high. Maybe you aren't jacking the motor up enough? Like take that bolt out of the motor mount and jack the motor up until the car moves. Then you will be good for sure.
