Hooker Catback Question

I am getting a Hooker catback for my 94 Z for christmas. My question is how does this catback sound with no cat and stock headers? I dont have to pass any emissions up here so that is not a problem.

If it does sound like crap with no cat I would like some recomendations for good high flow cats.

Also what is the diameter of the stock Y-pipe?

Thanks.

Re: Hooker Catback Question

Well if you take the cat out and put a straight pipe in it's place it prolly wouldn't sound to bad. I hollowed out my cat and had the hooker and it was too raspy. However, now I have LT's with the hooker and no cat and it sounds great

Re: Hooker Catback Question

A good friend of mine put the hooker on his 96 WS6, and it sounds pretty good in my opinion.. He is runnin no cats and a set of Jet Hot Long Tubes though..

Nice kit for the price though.. I think that for me it would definitly be an option if I were in the market for a cat back... The other option would be an Edelbrock Cat Back.. They sound mean and are really low key.. Something I like.

Re: Hooker Catback Question

i used to have mac headers/ORY, and mac cat-back,but then i heard the sound of the hooker cat-back, and LOVED IT!! so, the next day i went and ordered myself the hooker aerochamber muffler and had it installed, and it sounded even better with the mac headers. now i have pacesetter longtubes, and it just sounds damn mean! hooker cat-back is a great choice!!

Re: Hooker Catback Question

When i had mine with my other wise stock car, it was on there for about two months and then i just unbolted it right before the muffler and ran just stock manifolds, stock cat, and I pipe. I loved the sound of that. It was too quiet with the cat back. Now that i have headers and a gutted cat, i have to have the muffler on or it sounds like complete ****. With a gutted cat and mac headers, it sounds alright, everyone else seems to like it except me in the town. i plan on doing something different, something that wont start rusting in under a year like mine is...Just my opinions.
