Hooker catback owners, anyone use a different tip?

I absolutely love the sound of my hooker catback on my LT1, but i hate the way the tips look.

2 dual 3 inch tips are just a tad much for me. Anyone else switch them to something else? I have tried my local parts stores, everything there seems cheesy to me.

So if you have changed them, what did you use? Pics would be great.

I changed mine, but not much. I actually love the dual dual look with the 3" tips. What I didn't like was that the Hooker tips did not have a rolled lip. When you stood directly behind the car, you couldn't even see the tips. I bought tips that look very similar to the Hooker tips, but they are stainless and the tips are rolled. They are made by Hedman headers. They look awesome in my opinion. They are 3" also, but look smaller because the rolled lip makes the hole in the tips smaller, so they look more like 2 1/2". Now from any angle you can see the nice looking tips. I have them tucked up very close to the bumper and set in towards the muffler, so they don't look like they are just hanging off the back of the car. They are flush with the bottom back portion of the bumper and about 1/4" below it.

You could look for a single 3" tip with a rolled lip on each side. I think that would look good too, very much like the SS looks. The thing I really don't like about the stock SS tips are that they are just too small of diameter. They look tiny. I can't stand huge tips either, like the ricers like, but the SS looks too small. My dual 3" don't look large at all. They are basically the same as the Hooker but with a rolled lip. Much better. Not so chopped looking.

Looks great.

Thanks! I searched all over for tips like these, and found them made by Hedman, and sold through Summit. If you go to www.summitracing.com and type in 17205, you will get to them. The kicker is that they aren't cheap. Like $57 each, but it's worth it to me, and since they are stainless, they can go on any exhaust system I choose for a long time.

When I bought my Z28 new in '97, the first thing I did was buy rolled lip dual dual tips. It's unique and looks awesome. The old tips that I had didn't fit the new exhaust so I bought these and love them too.

Oh no! I won't have a one of a kind exhaust anymore.

Glad I could help.

Oh yeah, one more thing. They are a weld in style, but I chose to cut a 1" slit lengthwise at the back of the exhaust tips and use an exhaust clamp to hold them on. It's the same kind of connector that Hooker uses to connect the intermediate pipe to the over the axle pipe. Works great, and it allows you to position them anyway you want and take them back off if ever needed. I painted the clamps black so you don't see them.
