Hooker Aerochamber Installed!
Hooker Aerochamber Installed!
Well I got a Hooker Aerochamber muffler with some 'custom' tips welded up yesterday. The car had no cat on it b4, so I had the muffler shop weld in a 16" bullet in the place of where it was. I plan on running an electric cutout behind that for the track or when I want it loud later down the road.
The car sounds really good. I wasn't real sure what it was going to sound like since I hadn't heard a hooker catback on an LT1 car in person. The tips I used are 2.5" in to dual 3" outs with the slash cut on them (corsa proseries style). They look pretty good and fill in the back bumper pretty well and tend to resonate the sound a little. The car kind of reminds me of a sweet sounding jetboat...just that deep commanding sound under all acceleration.
I'm very happy with the sound, sounds good when you hit the gas, quiets down nicely when cruising, and no drone. I've been told that the bullet helps to take out some of the popping sound you get with manual tranny cars when you let out of the gas to slow down or shift. Well...the car still does it some....and it kinda bugs me. I think not having the cat promotes that, but I'm thinking about buying one of those vortex cone inserts to try and get rid of it more. Does anyone have a good remedy for this or is this just a single exhaust problem with these cars?
Anyways, overall I'm very pleased with the new setup. Once I get a few more cosmetic things done I'll get a good video of the car if anyone's interested.

I just put on a Hooker this weekend. WOW! I had a Flowmaster before, and had a tin can, popping, loud drone. Now, after a cat. converter, and this Hooker, I can hear all the creaks, grones, and weird sound my engine is making do to the lifters and header exhaust leaks instead of the loud drone while cruising. But anyway, this cat back is ALOT better sounding.
My car had a slight backfireing when getting off the freeway, put went away when I changed the plugs and wires.I'm ready for a new muffler, this flowmaster has a deep drone iside the car, causing me to crank up the stereo, causing me to blow two speakers.(I think my flowmaster is too restricktive anyway).My02
seems all the Hooker mufflers & catbacks have the 'popping'... I wonder if resonator tips do anything for this? or the Borla 'intercooler' tips.
actually to me it's more like gurgling
hehe, which isn't too bad really (i had a 'dronemaster' before too), only time the Hooker really pops is like when gamecockfan04 said - plus you get the I love My Hooker stickers!

I've had mine for months and love it...just wait until you break it in, it will sound better and be a little louder. Mine doesn't pop? and I have no cats and long tube headers. It doesn't pop when I rev it which is all I care about, but if I put it in 2nd or something and let off after likr 4500, and then step on the gas lightly it will pop a little but thats the only time I can make it pop..
I'm not sure about the tips....that have something to do with it. The tips are not the tips that come with the standard hooker catback...they're a 2.5" to 3" dual out per side, one on each side of the gas tank, like the hooker tips but chromed and slant cut instead of straight.
But nearly every V8 manual tranny car I've heard with single exhaust and no cat has popped on deceleration when you get out of the gas. What I'm talking about is similar to a harley, just the loud pop sound when coming off acceleration. It even pops when I shift...just kind of a quick 'gurgle' sound as my friends call it. I don't mind it much when I'm rippin' it, but just cruising its kinda funny...oh well. I'm real happy with it though, probably the best sounding muffler I've ever heard for these cars. (Right there with the GMMG, but I just prefer quieter cruising levels).
