Honest opinions on Nitrous

Ok if you bolted on a say100 or 125 shot to a stock LT1
How much faster would it be in the quarter mile?

Is it cost efective(re fills, etc)?

Wet or Dry ? which is the better quality/durabilty?

You'd probably be safe with a Dry 100 system, but if you do it too much or decide to go any higher you may find your injectors freezing up...

Whether or not its cost effective will depend on how often you will be "spraying"

a 100 or 125 shot should take off around a sec off the 1/4 mile time. Imo a wet shot is better and safer as long as you got all the safety equipment. I just don't like the idea of a dry shot. If your injectors stop working, your screwed.

Its not gonna be very cost effective is your gonna be filling up your bottle 3-4 times a month at around $40 a pop. If you just use it at the track or when you really need to then it is cost effective. But i would the other bolt on's and a cam before i went for the nitrous.

Well nitrous is a very effective power adder but it isn't for everybody. I personally think it is one of the best ways to increase the performance of a street car for drag strip fun. But as stated in another post if you use it a lot the cost of filing bottles will add up and trust me it gets addicting. As far as time go I shaved 1sec off my 1/8 mile times 9.0's to 8.0s and 14.1's in the quarter to a best of 12.1 with my stock engine no mods whatsoever and a 150shot dry system. I did have ET streets! I cannot however recommend a dry system I think wet systems are better and safer for the engine if tuned properly. Just my 2cents good luck with your choice.

You may get more responses in the "Nitrous" forum.

The pros and cons of N2O are pretty obvious. It's about what you think it is. The main "pro": the least expensive way (by far) to significantly increase acceleration. The main "con": it's not available all the time.

A 100hp shot will decrease your 1/4m ET by at least a second. I prefer "wet" systems. The cost, while low compared to other mods that give comparable increases in performance, is not as cheap as you think. The basic "kits" do not have verything you need. For safe, effective use you will need a bottle heater, window switch, and a pressure gauge, These will nearly double the cost of a typical wet kit.

I have loved my nitrous. My new mustang will be a boost car. But nitrous has served me well for a couple years now.

How is nitrous cheating. You wouldn't call a supercharged car a cheater would ya? Same thing...

On topic, nitrous makes ya feel like you downshifted at WOT. It's pretty neat stuff, and can pull about a full second off with a 100+hp shot...

I say that nitrous gives you the best of both worlds, you can make your car a badass n/a car, and then hit the nitrous when that isn't quite enough...

run a wet shot.. safer. I ran a 150 wet shot all last year. My converter is junk so i robbed me of a lot of power when on the gun. I went from 12.7's to 11.6's It should have been faster but like i said the converter was junk.. it slipped so bad i was at 6k going through the traps at 119 with a 3.23 gear and 28" tires with a th350 which has a 1:1 3rd gear ratio.

Naturally Aspirated means ALL MOTOR. That means any power adder or forced induction would take the engine out of the N/A catagory. N20 is cheating. end of story. I am going for a 10 second or less Naturally Aspirated Camaro. That way I will get more respect than anyone with spray. Thats what counts !!

That is typically the stigma in the street racing crowd but if you go to the drag strip in most situations you will be in a class that allows a power adder and your N/A car will most likely be the slowest one there. No flame just stating a fact. Nitrous is not cheating. Just helps you stay in the game.
