Question Honda ATF Z-1 or Regular Stuff in M6?

Going to change my M6 tranny fluid this spring. Anyone have any negative effects using the Honda fluid?

As a second alternative, what is a good brand to use for normal Dextron III ATF fluid?

Thanks for you input.

I've used the Honda ATF for over a year and it still shifts precisely w/o any extra noise.

Well it made the tranny noticably more notchy when its cold out (<50F). Until it warms up its much harder to shift into 1st or 2nd unless you come to complete stop.

Of course its normal for it to feel a little different when cold out but I dont recall it being this bad with the M1 ATF I had in there previously.

FWIW I plan on changing mine as soon as I can find something that is proven to be better. I'm considering some Redline D4 ATF right now...

I have the Honda ATF in mine, shifting feels great. I would do some research on here before using the Synthetic stuff. Supposedly the synthetic doesn't produce enough friction for the syncros.

I use Honda ATF and its good stuff. I will say this though....I was using Mobil 1 ATF before the switch and noticed no difference in feel and slightly more noise. I plan on going back to Mobil 1 next time I change it.

Nothing wrong with the regular stuff IMHO.

I am still not sure. I haven't driven my car since November. I can't remember how "notchy" the tranny was before. I might just try some quality regular stuff for now. It's got to be better than the old fluid in there now. Thanks for the replys.

Interesting..... I know some guys that race hondas/acuras and all of them use GM syncromesh trans fluid. I have never heard of anybody not liking syncromesh. Plus you can probably get it from www.gmpartsdirect.com for cheap or buy it at your local dealer.

I thought I read in my search that you should not use GM synchromesh in the T-56. I could be wrong though. I haven't researched it, but I didn't think it was ATF fluid like required. Any input?

I am probably just splitting hairs about all of this tranny fluid stuff anyways.

I use Mercedes Benz tranny fluid. Not because its better but because I can get it for free at work. It didn't make any difference to the way my car shifts gears. So long as its proper tranny fluid you are using I don't see how one brand would be better than another, atleast for an M6. Tranny fluid is tranny fluid.
