How to drain oil from A/C compressor

Guys,
Dumb question, where is the drain located on the A/C compressor? I need to remove and measure the amount of oil in the old compressor and can't figure out where the drain is (looking at the new compressor).

Thanks in advance,
John

No drain that I know of. The oil will be removed when you evacuate the system before recharging. There is a sticker on the compressor that tells how much and what kind (synthetic compressor oil) of oil to put in the system when recharging. I usually add the oil first, after evacuation.

So, are you adding pressurized oil? Or do you add liquid oil directly to the compressor (I guess through the pressure side lines)? If pressurized, how are you determining that you are adding the correct amount?

The info in the helms manual and compressor says to drain and measure the oil in the compressor, then add new oil dependent upon the amount drained.

Thanks again,
John

I will say this. I just get one of those 8 oz. cans and let that get in there, then put in a few more cans of 134. You might have to let some more back out though. Might put too much in. I have done it that way more times than I can count on both hands, the a/c system has survived to motor blow ups, and abuse and it still blows cold without any funny sounds.

You use pressurized oil. It comes in a can with a mixture of refrigerant and oil. Put that in first and follow with the correct amount of straight refrigerant.
