Holy horrible road test!

Well, I just couldn't wait any longer, so I took it for a trip around the neighborhood after h/c install. It had NO power, not that I was hammering on it or anything, but it took almost all it had just to accelerate normally. It still can't hold an idle, though it seems to be getting closer, Whereas before it had to be at at least 2k rpm to run, I can now hold it at 1k before it stalls. Could it just be an issue of giving the PCM time to learn the new cam? Any other thoguhts on the lack of power? Could it be lack of fuel pressure?

My friends car did the same after a longtube install. He had oepn headers and it felt like it was going to die. But when you got on it, it ran awsome.

I assume you still have open headers from your post in the lounge

I wouldnt worry untill you got the catback on there. If it does it then, well then you have an issue.

Lets hope it stays singular. Anybody else think its just the open headers

Hmm.. I dunno what to tell you. Maybe look over your work real well and see if you might have missed something. Try resetting the valve lash with the motor running.. easier that way.

I have NO idea about the past history of your car of this job, but did you do anything to the PCM to adjust for what you did?

When you do H/C with the motor in the car its easier to be a tooth out on the timing. This could possibly be the problem too. Did you make sure that the dots were facing eachother, then make a couple revolutions with the crank to make sure the dots still line up?

Re: Holy horrible road test!

You're off on the timing chain or fried some wires. The car will not run like this, even with a stock computer. It is not a PCM issue.

It's possible you installed the optispark incorrectly also...

Re: Holy horrible road test!

I'm pretty sure i've got it down to a rocker arm issue. I had someone hold it at 1500rpm while I adjusted them, then it would hold idle on its own around 900rpm just fine. I didn't get a chance to take it on the road afterward, but I think thats it. I spent a good deal of time making sure the cam was lined up right, though I cant be 100% sure.

Valve lash, or off a tooth. Mine did the same thing when my rockers were way out of adjustment.
