Hollow tapping
Will be hard to diagnose without actually hearing but exhaust leak is the first place I would attempt to look. Most muffler and exhaust shops would put your car on the lift and run over it with their stethascope for free. At that point if they find an exhaust leak you can have them quote you to fix it and that way you dont have to feel pressured I to letting them if you dont want too. If they will let you in and under the car its a great time to examine for any loose or missing bolts or anything else that could indicate wear or a potential for your noise. I would check the transmission mount and crossmember for all the bolts being snug(I had one missing and the other loose at one time and was starting to make noise.

Re: Hollow tapping
If not an exhaust leak, then probably might be valve lash tap, since they are under the valve covers it might sound hollow. These are rarely adjusted by regular owners, and they do get sloppy every 60k, so you might as well pull off the valve covers and check, or have them checked.
If it still does it after valve lash adjustment, then the lifter probably could have a flat spot which will quickly ruin the cam. If it is then it is probalby to late for the cam already since you are hearing it. This is inside/under the intake manifold valley which is hollow too.
I suppose there are other possibilities, but you said tap and hollow so that is my diagnosis based on the written info.
