From what I hear, the stock coil is pretty good and people tend to have more problems with the aftermarket ones vs stock. Although if I remember correctly, there's differences between 93-95 coils and 96-97 coils and I'm not sure which one was the better of the two.

Your stock coil is fine.

When I put a new opti and water pump on my stock '94, I also installed a new ICM and Crane coil. I don't plan to do much more to my car than headers, exhaust and aftermarket plug wires. Based on what I've heard, the coils on 93's-95's had a little weaker output than the 96's-97's. I'm not sure whether I'll see any benefit, but I figured while I was in there, why not upgrade. I doubt I would have bothered replacing it had I not been doing other stuff.
