yeah I think I'm gonna do that. It sounds fun and pretty easy. Also much cheaper than a premade kit. do a search. A lot of guys here have done a custom for under a hundres bucks.

Thats some low miles on that 94 Z, how much did you pay for it? And was it in total working order when you bought it?

ive already got a big k&n cone laying around. its brand new. i dont even know where i got it. thats why im just thinking of making a CAI.

i paid a lot for my car. its flawless. it the exact car i wanted. its patriot red w/ black cloth, a hardtop 6 speed. it was one middle aged woman owned and never wrecked, and bone stock. ive got the entire maintainence history too. i ended up paying $10,800 for it. blue book on it was $8100, but i hadnt seen a car like this for anywhere close to $8100.

building one is easy enough that I would never consider spending $150-$200 on a CAI again...I've built 2 now for 2 different cars. The one I have now is a 4" model, with a 4" opening K&N filter. Its tight, but it fits and flows like mad

I would suggest, take your filter to your local Lowes or Home Depot (try to find a place with thin wall PVC tubing) and slip it on the end of differnet size tubes/connectors until you find one to fit, then just put the rest of the system together after that.
