HIGH RES Failure
HIGH RES Failure
My car is cutting out at part throttle, but not at WOT, sometimes throws SES. I check the codes, it said high res failure code 36. Does this mean the opti is bad or possibly bad connection. The opti is MSD with maybe 200 miles on it, never driven in the rain, with LTCC setup. Also says electronic spark timing circuit grounded code 42. Is the opti junk or wiring issue? Thanks.

Re: HIGH RES Failure
I would double check your grounds and connections..I am getting ready to install my ltcc conversion as well..From what I understand the coils have to have very good grounds. The High Res failure code should not be there any more correct? That is the whole reason for the ltcc,I would think..I am interested to hear what Shoe and Injuneer have to say.
Re: HIGH RES Failure
The 36 is having nearly no impact on the running of the engine. I proved it by cutting the hir-res line and twisting it back together and running like that for a month. It intermittently threw a 36 code while driving both local and long distance. But NEVER cut off.
Your major problem is the 42 which is how the ignition system is fired. With a loss of this signal, the ignition will NOT fire.
Either the ICM is defective or the white wire from the black PCM connector pin 5 is grounded on it's way to the ICM. Disconnect it at both ends and ohm it ground while you wiggle along it's length.
Since it doesn't occur all the time, it's likely touching ground occasionally.

Re: HIGH RES Failure
Thanks for the input. The LTCC does take the ICM out, which did throw that code, which I believe Ed Wright made it where it wont show the SES. So I believe you guys are right with a wire being grounded being the culprit. When I was wiring the LTCC in I found a hack job mess so I probably miss something. Thanks again.
