high knock counts

high knock counts

what am i doin wrong new opti ,full tune up 93 oct fuel,car is right but at anything above 3500 i start gettin high knock counts like 40 and above .am i missin somthing

Are you saying the "knock count" field is incrementing by "40" at times? When this happens, does it cause any knock retard? The two are not directly related. Sometimes the knock count increases and does not cause knock retard. It only seems to cause knock retard if the knock sensor has recently picked up knock and caused retard. The knock count field appears to be calculated internally to the PCM, based on various engine operating parameters that may increase the potential for knock.

i honestly didnt look ill get the scanner again tommorow and see if it does im just wonderin why its fallin over at about 4-5 grand ,when everything seems to be ok ,and i noticed the count up there ....... i mean its got 40 psi of fuel pressure under load no vac leaks new tune up ,opti ,headers ,catback .....im just lost with it i guess

The knock count starts at "0" and continuously increments up over a long period of time, until it reaches something like 64,000 then resets to 0 and starts all over again. The actual number is meaningless. Its the magnitude and frequency at which it changes that is important. Isn't unusual to see it increase 4,000 counts or so every cold start.
