I had a custom one made. My original one went after two start ups. I also lowered the timing at start up and now it starts like a stock compression car. I had a optima red top and with the old starter it would crank really, really slow and then fire. Starter was a lt4. I payed a guy local to me 120 for the new custom one. They use the same style in his all out race car, and has actually cranked it to pull it onto a trailer....lol

Hard to say but it it will bolt up assuming nothing gets in the way. Might be a tight fit with the headers/pan depending on what you have. Try it and if it doesnt fit you can always send it back.

thats why I say maybe. It would probably clear the pan, headers you got a 50/50 shot.

Smaller also means weaker (less hp and cranking power)

Not neccesarily. The strength of a starter depends on its gearing, not engine size. Even a tiny little DC engine can be decievingly "torquey" with the right gear reduction.

You are right. But when it comes to starters to make them smaller they use smaller motors/solenoids with the same grear to make it fit in a smaller package. Not 100% true for every one but generally what I have seen.

stock LT1 starter.

I kill the fire when I turn it over then as soonm as I cut the ignition on it fires up.

Never had any problems and mine is pretty high, could be the camshaft though.

Mine is around 14, Yesterday it did fine.....

How are you guys starters hooked up?

I had a bunch of problems until I got rid of the relay and went to a ford solenoid. Its a damned shame everytime I have to fix something I swap on ford parts
