hey shoebox (or anyone else who may know)...quick window question..

I have tracked down the source of my window problems, but know I need to know how to go about fixing it. On the bottom of that narrow metal strip (as seen )

here

there is a small metal piece that acts as a guide I guess (its shaped almost like a bullet) for the window...that piece is gone and now there is only a hole. This is why I am able to move the window back and forth and also why it bends inward as the window moves up. I compared with the passenger window to find the problem. What is this piece called, and will I be able to just put the new one in place, or will that entire bar need to be replaced?? Thanks alot.

update: the guide itself (bullet shaped piece) came off the bracket that is attached to the window..However, it appears this bracket is actually riveted to the window glass. Will I have to take it somewhere to have that bracket replaced, or can I somehow do it myself? TIA.

You might be able to repair it by welding or brazing the piece back on. Part of the mechanism is riveted to the glass. You may end up having to pull the whole thing out and have it repaired or get a new regulator.

Not sure if something like JBWeld might hold it.

Holy crap, I had the same exact problem. You cant weld it b/c it has a nylon bushing that will prob melt, Jb weld held for about a day, and you have to buy the whole window slide peice that is too much for me. I just put a screw into it for the time being.

P.S Try going to a auto glass place, I went there and they only wanted about 50$ to fix it. I am waiting till the screw falls out or breaks to do it

thanks...I thought about trying maybe a similar sized bolt or something to see if that would work...I guess I'll try a couple of things myself before I pay someone else to fix it. Thanks for the help!!

You can weld it. I did mine about a week ago. Just do a spot and cool it down and repeat.

I've never welded anything before....How tough is it actually, and what all would I need to do it?
