Hey all, I'm back. Going to try this again...get the 383 running.
Re: Hey all, I'm back. Going to try this again...get the 383 running.
Good luck. Someone earlier suggested dropping the car off at a place the does tuning, giving them the card number and picking it up later. I fully agree with this.
I have similar problems to you. I'm running a pretty large cam, and the motor is not making very much vacuum at idle. I'm going to need a tune that's dead nuts on at idle, and my mail order one is not. Just as soon as I get it running well, a few minutes later it will foul the plugs, miss, throw a MAP voltage high code and basically sit there and crap itself.
At this point all I want to do with the car is park it in a field and charge people $20 and let them put holes in it with a rifle. Perhaps if enough people are interested I could pay off what I've spend in parts.
At this point since my newly installed transmission is freaking out and puking fluid all over the ground I have two options I've come up with: put a carb on it and swap to a six speed (engine has been run on a carb and performed flawlessly on the test stand, and local shop can tune carbs but not EFI), or get my recent trans woes sorted out and trailer it to North Carolina to have it tuned and diagnosed if necesary.
I sincerely hope you have more luck with yours that I have had with mine so far, I know how frustrating it is. This stuff is supposed to be a hobby, but when all the gremlins show up it is anything but fun.

FastZ...that describes it exactly. Bret came down last SUMMER and he helped me get everything running right mechanically, but somewhere along the way something crapped itself like you said. Maybe what I have is too "radical" for a mail-order tune? I would think not, but I don't know...I just don't know if I can swing the money right now to get a custom tune on it...
The O2's have about 6 miles on them.

Re: Hey all, I'm back. Going to try this again...get the 383 running.
I doubt you guys have something too "radical" for a mail order tune. As long as the tuner has the information, the tune should atleast make the car run and idle. With the high MAP sensor reading, the car is reading out of a different part of the fuel table than it should with a normal MAP sensor reading. That part of the table is most likely richer. If you had access to tuning software, I would say you could get it running somewhat better and not foul plugs. Or, get a hold of the tuner you used and let him know that the car is idling with that MAP reading and he'll have him lean it out some. Don't some tuners offer free fixxes if the tune is off?
Re: Hey all, I'm back. Going to try this again...get the 383 running.
One more idea - unhook Delteq, put wires where they supposed to be - on opti. It's very possible something got crapped out either in control module or ICM/coils. I wouldn't troubleshoot anything with Delteq/LTCC any deeper.
Re: Hey all, I'm back. Going to try this again...get the 383 running.
Today I cleaned the MAF wires, and shot another video. My #6 & #8 primaries are glowing, which makes me think too much fuel is being dumped in, or, I need to yet again try to adjust the rockers. I might give it another shot and adjust again. Still getting slight popping out through the intake. Checked fuel pressure and I'm at 40-43 or so, so that's fine.
I am getting some flame out my muffler, is that normal at all? Seen here in the video...
Still stumbling, but, "moveable" in the driveway.

valter, can't really do that because I don't have the coil or anything else original on there to use with the Opti...

Re: Hey all, I'm back. Going to try this again...get the 383 running.
The slight popping thru the intake is usually a misadjusted rocker arm, or the dam lifters.
6 & 8 are really rich if they are glowing.
You are also getting some fire out the exhaust which means a leak and it's running rich.

j/k I'm 99.99999% sure nothing was built wrong in the engine...

I didn't read all of your thread, I thought he came down AFTER YOU installed everything and was having problems. I'm gonna shut up now while I'm WAAAAAAAAAAY behind.

Update:
Got my data cable and Datamaster. Looked at the code table, I have Code 48: MAF System Fail. I have another MAF in my hand from a guy on a local board I'm going to try. Going to test the 3 wires too, make sure I'm getting the right voltage.
Pulled out the drivers side plugs, all fouled so I assume the pass side are too, so swapping plugs tonight. $13/set this is getting freaking expensive...16 junk now! Unless I can clean them.
I'm also going to try setting these damn rockers/lifters again before I start it, see if that's what's causing the backfiring out the intake...don't want to blow this guy's MAF wires!
Here's a datalog of last night:
http://paradox.shacknet.nu/dave88lx/...es/383test.uni
I was told my TPS % and V at idle was too high so I backed off the TB blade to get it under .90, I think it's at .86V now. We'll see if that helps anything too.
Back to work I go.
