Hesitation in the rain

Here's the deal...

Last time it rained (I don't remember how long ago it was) and I drove the car it started missing and running like poop, just hesitating and studdering and what not. Well I got back home and check the plugs and found that one was loose (somehow). I tightened and everything has been fine until tonight.

I drove to Walmart and before I even made it there it started running just the same as last time. Hesitating, stumbling, missing and just running like crap.

It does it for a few seconds, goes away and runs fine for a few seconds, and then comes back again.

I'm starting to think that it may be something with my opti but I'm not sure. They car has 86K miles on it and basically stock with headers only. Does this sound like something the opti would cause when it gets wet or could it be something else??

What kind of plug wires are you using? My elitespark plug wires do that when it rains. They get wet and its starts to missfire, just what you explained.

check to make sure your water pump is not leaking onto the optispark.

Check all of your plug wires to make sure they are firmly seated on both the opti terminals and the plugs. You could also try to spray the wires with a spray bottle while the car is running and see if you can duplicate the problem.

I have NGK TR55 plugs and Taylor wires. They've been on there for about 1500 miles. I'm going to wait until it warms up a bit before I make sure they are all snug. The rain turned to snow last night.

SS RRR - I don't think it's the water pump only because it runs like crap when it rains. It runs excellent when it's dry out.

Your opti or plug wires are getting damp and cross firing or jumping to ground. Separate the wires better or get a new set and clean the porcelain on the outside of the plugs.

Elite's wires were notorious for that. My set held up well for a few months, then started doing the same thing. Worse wires I have ever had.

Yep, same here. Luckily I have only been caught in two rainstorms so it isn't a big deal. Very aggravating though when the wires were only a couple months old and ran almost 90 bucks.
