Question Hesitation at high revs and high speed

Car has been hesitating at approx 140-160kph and 4000+ rpm, doesn't want to hold revs very well and doesn't pull smoothly. Thought perhaps it was the optispark, but in neutral car revs smoothly all the way to redline. seems to only happen in 4th at high revs. Doesn't really feel like it's misfiring, more like something is slipping. Clutch pack in tranny maybe? Car is an A4 with 132,000 kms on it. Any body have similar problem?

i was going to say change the coil, coil wire, and plugs/wires. the coil usually gives the problem at high rpm's. but, if something is slipping, i can't help you much.

This happened to me awhile back in park and neutral ran fine but in gear it hesistated and missed. My problem was dirt in my carburator. i took it apart and cleaned it out and took air compressor and blew all the holes out and then it ran perfect. But we are talking about two totally different things with carb and efi. Your injectors may be stopped up or check your fuel filter. Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the advice. I never thought to check fuel system, and I know that the filter is getting pretty old.

Is there any way to check the coil, with a multimeter for example?
