Darkhorse sold his 94 Z28 that ran 11.3's on BFG DR's for around $6K.

You can buy parts really cheap...that setup had a tired 100K+ mile shortblock, stock heads, just a very small cam, an s-trim making 5 lb of boost.

A rebuilt shortblock, more boost and you would have had a 10 second, pump gas street car.

Easy guys, it was just an option. If you don't know how to look over a used race or project car, maybe you shouldn't be trying to mod what you have now. And of coarse there might be things that can't be checked out or unexpected finds (problems) in the future. That's why you only buy one if it looks like a deal and have factured in the things you might have missed in the first place.

Like Canton said - my car was really just a thrown together buffet of used parts with boost.

130k stock shortblock, untouched stock heads, small cam, bolt ons, 3800 stall, 3.42 gear and 5lbs of boost 11.30's @ 120+ cutting mid/high 1.7 60's.

I never got the chance to put a real tire on it (Bias ply) or mat the throttle from the line - it was always a 'roll into it' launch.

Would it have run high 10's? I like to think so but it never did so.....

You could replicate that car pretty cheap but there aren't many people out there willing to buy some of the used parts that I bought, or, they pay someone else to do the work. Cantonracer, myself, Grease, Handyman - we did the labor on my car, every bit of it.

I have a 95 TA with a 510ci big block that, coincidentally I am looking to trade for a C5.

Car runs great, only has about 100 miles on the motor and trans...and fuel system, water pump, driveshaft..radiator...pretty much every drivetrain part.

If you search for 510 BBC it should pop up in the for sale section. I just reduced the price to 11500 or trade. It's a well built project that turned out to be more than I want to drive on the street. I have about 22k invested, all in the last two years.

It's making a lot of power already with untouched Dart heads and a smaller carb than could be used for this application.

Check it out.

yeah considering it the dumbest thing i think i have ever read. so your saying i should stop modding my car because of scammers and liers? sorry but you have no idea what or how the internals are. all you are doing is taking the guys word. so you get it for a cheap price, but the guy would break even because there is all kinds of cheap parts in it. but you dont know that until you take it to the track, and put a rod threw the block

If thats your take on what you read, thats fine with me. Don't know what to look for when dealing with used equipment or if the price covers some ill event, then I don't what to tell ya. Case in point, bought a used 427 BB off a guy. Was on an engine stand in his garage. Showed him the cash and asked him to pull the intake, one head, and the oil pan. This took a whole 30 min. to do. The motor was exactly as stated. Stock bore L88. All the right parts and the cyls. looked great on that bank. This motor was a steal.
PS, nice use of the smilies.

now that is a different story all togeather. im talking when the engine and tranny are in the car. not to many people are going to let you take the car apart to look over stuff.

How many miles you got on that vette? Let's make a deal...
Seriously though you need to consider drivability...My car has run 10's N/A, but have you ever driven a car like that on the street? A daily driver is always a compromise between track times and comfort. I got the track times...

With a good rear-end, this car should run 10s even in California in the
summer time!

The cheapest way to run 10s with an LT1 is to put it in a rail dragster...
