Help - Starting Problem

Before I start digging in too far I figured I would see if anyone here had this same issue to cut diagnosis time down for me. Lately the car has an intermittent issue with starting.

First, the car is a 1997 Z28 with LT1, 75,000 miles, all stock except K&N Cold Air Intake and a Flow Master muffler.

Problem: The engine turns over / cranks over sometimes up to 5-6 seconds before it actually starts up. Once the car starts it runs perfect with no issues. On one occasion after the car started the idle was high around 2500rpm for a few seconds then returned to normal.

Like I stated before the car runs perfect with no issues and No Check Engine Light is on or has come on in the past.

check your fuel pressure, to see if it bleeds off quickly when you turn the car off. also you could try priming the fuel pump a couple times before actually cranking the car to see if that makes a difference. turn the key on engine off a couple of times.

Just to be clear, the problem is that it cranks for longer than you'd like?

How is the voltage to the starter motor? Is the cranking sluggish at all?

Yes, the problem is that the engine cranks over much longer before starting. I wouldn't say "more then I would like" because it definitely cranks over much longer then it ever has or should.

If after it sits for a couple hours or a day and you have a extended start conditionon your first start up. After it starts shut it off and if it starts back right away with out any delay you probably have a bad fuel pump the fuel is draining back into the tank and takes a little while to pump back up when first starting after sitting for a while.
