Help! rear main seal what did i do wrong?
A couple of weeks ago I changed out my clutch. Had an oil leak, which was for sure intake, but wanted to replace the rear main while I was in there. AT the same time I tore the intake off the car and put in a new gasket, sealant..etc.
To get the old rear main out, I just pried it out with a screwdriver. Unfortunately I didn't pay much attention to how far the seal was pressed in. To get the new seal in, I got it started by hand and with a feeler gauge made sure the seal was in right, and tapped it in with my snap on hammer which has a plastic beater.
Well, Now I went to the track (road course) and I am running mobil 1 10 w 30. Noticed that I have a leak. Looks like is coming out around the bell housing. Took off the inspection cover and there was a drop of oil on the crankshaft where the flywheel connects.
The top of the engine seemed dry. SO looks like I now have a rear main leak. I will fix it again, but what can I do to make sure I don't mess it up again? I felt pretty good about the way the seal went in last time.
thanks for any advice

Not sure but it looks like oil. I will keep that in mind though thanks.
LEaky seals really suck. One of my other rides is a 68 firebird, I put a pontiac 455 in it which is notorious for leaky rear main. I put a special seal in it and have been lucky so far, but this LT1 likes to leak. Not alot but just drip, drip, enought to make a mess.
