Help please! Cooling problems car getting HOT!
The last few days my car has been getting REALLLLLLLLY hot, it usually runs at the one notch befor the red zone, thats common at a stop light. But 2 days ago it touched the red! and last nigh while driving i had to have the heat on full blast to keep it from doing the same thing again. When i turn my car off i hear the fans kinda wind down so i know those are on. But i just realized yesterday when it shut off i was listning to it, and i heard a *Fizzzzzzzzz* Like something wet was hitting something hot. where would i have a leak that something like that might happen? I have a brand new water puimp so that shouldnt be leaking at all it has like 2k on it same with the opti. I just cant take it, we all know a hot LT1 runs like crap!.
Also dosent the AC usually bring engine temps down? by kicking the fans on? that didnt seem to bring it down at all last night or the day befor only the heat on full blast on an 85 degree night with 95% humidity.. I was sweatin my butt off.... any help would be AWESOME! thanks a ton!

i had a problem like this not to long ago.......
the motor on my primary fan went, resulting in EXTREME temps....my needle went into the red and coolant started boiling out of the resevoir.....pop open your hood and start it up.....listen when your temp goes up for the fan to kick on.....it should go on around 180 i think... (stock ECM program).....if it doesnt go on start checking fuses....if the fan doesnt kick than the motor may be bad...
how is your radiator? your coolant level?
the secondary fans will only activate if the ac is on or if it gets to a really high temp.....its not supposed to exactly run cooler on a hot day with the ac on......hope this helps

Same problem
I have had the same problem here for going on three weeks now. I took it to the Chevrolet Dealership, and they told me it was either the sending unit or the instrument cluster. After replacing all the sending units and the instrument cluster, we discovered that wasn't the problem at all. So, we then replaced the water pump, thermostat and radiator (only because it had a hole in it). After all this the DARN thing is still running hot???? Anyway, I am all out of ideas as far as that goes.
As soon as I bought my car I replaced the radiator hoses, flushed it out, put in all new 50/50 + a bottle of water wetter, bled the air out, got a Hypertech 160 Powerstat and Power Programmer and installed that immediatly. My car never go's over the half way mark which is 200 I think...? and it allways sits around 180 or less even with full A/C blasting on a hot summer day. DO THIS AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY
I never worry about temperature with my LT1 the least bit anymore. Worth every penny.
The A/C puts more demand on the engine while the clutch is engaged in the compressor. Thats the click sound you hear right before your rpm's jump up 200 or so. THis definately does not make your engine cooler in any way. It only cools off your air
It shouldn't be a major factor in overheating but if it is any kind of problem then you have a worse problem to deal with. I go fast with my A'C on all the time with plenty of power but I do notice a small increase in trottle response while it is off. The only thing that can pull a small amount fo heat away from the block is blasting the heat full.
As for the tiss tisssss sound you hear when you shut your car aoff it is most likey condensation dripping down on to your Y-pipe. This sound scared me until I got under there and tested the fluid which was clear water that was dripping. I hope for your sake you are having the same thing happen because it just happens and is not a problem.
