I went to close up the front of my new engine with the timing cover and was having a issue with the gaskets that I ordered. I ordered gaskets and a new distributor for a 1997 LT-1, as I was told 1995-1997 engines were all the same. Well, I found out there not.

The engine that is going is I was told is a 1995 LT-1, It is going in a 1997 Z28.

Can some one look a my photos and tell what I am doing wrong? I probably can not return the new parts I bought but it is a lesson learned. Thank you.

The cover in the middle picture is for a non-vented (93-94) opti. If that came off your "new" engine, then it was not a 1995 or later.

 

Can I just switch covers to use the bottom one? Are they interchangeable?

 

Yes, as long as your cam and cam gear are not of the splined drive type that was used with the earlier opti.
