Help me out a bit.

Ok, so I bought a 96 z28 a few months back cause i got a really good deal on it. The motor was completely rebuilt and only had a few thousand on it. It came with all of the receipts with everything done to it. But what Im not sure is what my engine is now. I know its bored .30 over but not sure if its a stroker, 355, 383 or what. If i post on here everything thats done to it could someone tell me what it is or would i have to take it someone to tell me what it is or what?? I just dont really know how to tell. Thanks

These are some of the things I have done to it.
Rocker arms, pistons ring set, LT4 camshaft, Oil pump, Optispark timing set, Connecting rods, water pump, distributor cap and rotor, MSD Ignition.

This is what it reads on the receipts for parts and what has been done-
-Cylinder head bolts, high performance, 12 point head, chevy small block kit.

-Forged Flat, 4.060 inch bore, Standard Rod

-Timing Chain and gear set, extreme duty, single roller, steel sprockets.

-Camshaft, Hydraulic roller Tappet, duration at 0.50 lift 218/228, Lift at valve .492/.492

-Rebore and Hone 0.030
-Surface Block 0.013
-Surface Heads 0.010

Yup, unless you have a different crank in there (unknown from your list) or longer connecting rods (not the case from your list) then you don't have a stroker. As stated the 4.060 gives you a 357 and that cam is pretty common upgrade but nothing radical. Pretty mild rebuild and it sounds like someone spun a bering at one time and did a budget rebuild with a few upgrade parts.

Yes and no, you will also need a new crank and the block also needs to be clearanced for the larger stroke or reach of the crank and rods. Personally, I'd go with what you have as it's going to cost some coil to upgrade from what you have for very little gain.

Ok. thanks. I am pretty happy with what I have now. I am planning on getting some long tubes and a nice cat-back when I get the money and that should help me out quite a bit more. Just wanted to know more about what I have so I didnt sound like an idiot when people ask me about it. LOL

Really not clear whether he has a 4.030" bore or a 4.060" bore.

4.060" bore x 3.48" stroke is 360.42 cubic inches.

Thats kind of what I was a little confused about also, It says two different bores in two different receipts that I have.... The 0.030 bore is written in pencil next to the box that was checked that the car had been bored and the next receipt is printed out that is has the 4.060 inch bore. Is it possible that it was bored out more than once??

Guess the only way you would really know would be to talk to the machine shop or take the heads off and mic the cylinders. Either way it is either a 355 or 360...not much of a difference to speak of.
