Help! LT1 over heating

My 1995 camaro z28 overheats and I just replaced the thermostat, and the radiator tank. Steam keeps coming out of the over flow. Any suggestions where to start?

Did you bleed the air out after the t-stat and radiator install?

No I didn't. How do I do that? And the temp gauge kind of goes crazy up and down up and down so I keep the heater on full blast to cool it down a bit.

There are 2 air bleed screws to the system. You need to crack them open till you get coolant to bleed thru without any air bubbles. You can tell when the air is done because there will be a steady stream of coolant. You will need to alternate between the bleed screws. One is near the alternator and the other is closer to the opti. Place a rag under the water pump and over the opti when you do this . Try to keep the coolant off the opti.
If you do this when it is cold, you can start with the coolant cap off. When it gets low, add more. Crack the screws and just keep repeating. When the motor gets to full temp, the t-stat will be fully open . When the coolant streams out and you don't need to add anymore coolant, you are done.

opti is the optispark. Our distributors are known as the opti spark. It gets a bad rap alot of the time but it is buried under the water pump. The bad part is some engineer had the bright idea to put the weep hole in a spot that will leak onto the opti spark. While the opti is a "sealed" unit, sometimes the coolant gets inside and the coolant is very bad for the opti. Thats why I said to cover the opti with a rag. You can get a few drops on it but don't let it get soaking wet with coolant. You will be fine, don't worry.
