Help With Line Lock!!!

i will be ordering a line lock set up in the next day or two for my 96 Z. i have a few Qs...

i know SLP makes a kit for a LS1, is there anything for LT1 cars?? i may just get a regular kit out of Summit or Jegs.a friend told me if i did that, i would have to get TWO kits because i would need a solinoid for each front brake line, since there are two. another friend told me i could just put one solinoid before the distribution block, thus saving $$ and making it more simple.

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

thanks, jon

U will need one selnoid. Plumb it in between the MC, and the ABS module.

The install kits for our cars are necessary for most people unless you ahve the equipment to make your own brake lines. I have pics of min installed on pg 5 of my page.

install kits?? where did you get yours and what kind/how much?? i was looking at a Jegs kit. 49.95 plus a install kit for 27.95. the Jegs install kit comes with line to make your own bends and put on the fittings yourself.

when oyu say "ABS module", you mean the distribution block?? the line goes to the DB right after the MC. is that what your reffering to?

thanks, jon

You must buy an LT1 specific install kit. Thunder Racing sells them, and I think Performance Parts Outlet also sells them. The key ingredient here is the pre-bent lines. The 4th Gen brake fittings are a unique GM "mushroom" flare, metric size, and a JEG's or Hurst generic kit will not have the correct fittings. TR or PPO will sell you a complete ihnstall kit, or just the pre-bent lines, which is about all you really need.

You put the solenoid in the front brake line from the master cylinder (rearmost of the two lijnes) to the ABS unit . Yes, there is a small proportioning block on the side of the ABS unit, with a differential pressure switch and that is where the front brake line connects. It is not a "distributor block" - in effect, the ABS motors splits the front brake circuit into the lines to the two front wheels, but that isn't really improtant.

I just looked at www.slponline.com and can't find anything about theirs. Where did you see this? Thunder Racings kit goes for $215, SLP's sounds like a good deal for $139.

The TR kit is complete, and includes way more than most people need (relay, wiring harness, master arm switch, etc.). All you really need to do is buy the lines, and a Hurst solenoid kit. Check PPO.. I thought they were selling the lines for about $40.

INJUNEER-

pre-bent lines? thats sounds good, but 215 bucks doesnt. i know on a regular drum brake car, you just get the kit and bend your own lines. why couldnt i just bend the lines myself? im sure you could find the right fitting at a parts store or a place like home depot. when i did the fuel line for my old 65 chevelle i did all of the bending/fittings myself. just curious??

with the Jegs kit you have to buy a installation kit that has lines fitting to go with the main package.

how much is the kit through TR??

That looks pretty good to me, I didn't know they had a kit. Definitely let us know how it works out, I'm looking to get one for this season.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear.... I wasn't telling you the TR kit was worth it... .only pointing out that is has way more than you need, and recommending that you just spend $40 for the lines... what part wasn't clear?

You are not going to find the GM metric flare fittings at Home Depot, but maybe you're a little more creative than I am..... Check with "shoebox".... he knows the fitting specs, and each end of the lines haas different specs.

I just re-used the old fittings and flared the lines to match. I had to buy thread adapters for my TCI unit. The cost of fittings and lines was under $10. I already have the tubing bender and flaring tool though.

I just bought the Biondo silinoid from Summit for $37 and used the exsisting line(cut out a section... flared the ends and put the silinoid in) . I wired a switch up that lets me use the horn button to activate and release the lock.Works great and cost less than $50 to do it all.

Where do these kits mount the solenoid? The reason I ask is that my MSD 6BTM is mounted right above the fuse box, and I think that is where the line lock goes in these kits. Could I use either of these kits or must I have something custom made?

just an FYI.

Performance parts outlet don't sell these kits now. They were kits made from jigs and schematics I designed for them specifically under their name.

Upon PPO's reorganization and changing hands, they decided not to construct the kits using my jigs at this point and time.

I will once again be manufacturing them and selling them through my company. At this time though, we have been extremely busy and don't plan on construction them for sale for a few months. I personally have been spreading my workload too thin. I will be adding a biodo line lock kit as an inexpensive alternative also.
