Help i think my trans just went

Ok, here is the story. I was driving home from work. I got on the on ramp and gave it some gas. I heard a loud thump that sounded like it came from the rear. I proceeded on the on ramp and everything sounded fine. I figured a rock was thrown up and hit the bottom of the car. Well I went down the expressway and everything seemed fine. When I got of the expressway i slowed for a light. Then when I took off it held first gear and didn't won't to shift into second. It eventually shifted to second and then proceed with out a problem. Then stopped for a light and had to start in first again. It did the same thing it would hold first for a long time and then slowly shift into second. Did my tranny just take a dump and I need to rebuild?

A4 with transgo and a trans cooler.

Thank You
Andy

Something is definatly starting to go inside the trans, How many miles do you have on your car?

You said a loud clunk right? Well if thats the case trying replacing the trans mount. If that doesnt solve your problem then you might have something more serious.

Trans has 40000 on it. I have had the trans mount break and know what that sounds like. I checked just incase and its fine. Could this be anything else other than my tranny going?

Thanks Andy

the clunk could be a trans mount, but not shifting defiantly is a inside the trans issue.
