geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz. Took my battery out and was putting new terminals on and going to put a new battery back in and I had these laid out " I THOUGHT" can someone help me here because I don't want to screw up my car and really was hoping to take her out this evening as I just had her painted.
The car is a 94Z automatic.

Heres what I have:

1. A red wire fastened to the little red box by the power steering fluid.

2. A red wire coming from the back of the alternator

3. A black wire that is mounted to the frame beside the little red box mentioned above.

4. Finally I have 2 really heavy gauge wires that are in a wire loom and appear to be coming up from down in front of the motor between the radiator and motor. They are both in a loom but I can't see a color on them. 1 is shorter though and I can't see it reaching to the negative terminal on the battery.


If someone can tell me which of these wires are positive and which are negative I would really appreciate it because stupid me is just sitting here in the garage looking at a car I reallllllllly want to drive....

The red one going to the red box is the pos or "+" side, the black one that has a lead to just the lug and down to the block is the neg or "-" side. the wires youre talking about coming down the fender well could be either, those I would have to see, they will go to either the lug or the red box, not sure.

 

Ok, went out and looked at my car.

There are several wires coming from down lower in the loom (closer to the battery) they goto the red box junction, farther up on the fender well about 8 inches two more wire come out taped together and on the same terminal, they go onto the lug.

 

Oh yeah, the red wire onthe alternator will goto the pos "+" lug on the battery.

 

OK when you are referring to the "lug" this is..??????? I didn't unhook anything from the red junction box. the only thing I did was take each cable end and loosen the old terminals that go into the battery allowing the stripped wires to come out so I could put my new ends on. So I know they all go back into the cable ends at the battery. your a help so far because I am stupid like this...LOL

 

There is the red box that opens and has wires going into it and one going to the battery pos side (red), then there is the other lug that is about 8 inches or so closer to the fender and over a little it has aome wires from the loom going to it and a wire from the negative side of the battery going to it.

 

how confusing...... OK I have wires 1, 2, and 3, accounted for. the last 2 I am still lost on are the two that are together inside the loom coming up in front of the engine towards the battery. Seeing how one is a little shorter and probably won't reach the negative side of the battery ill assume that it goes to the positive but hell I don't know geeezzzzzzz again.
