HELP gpoing itno gear is hard, reverse is near impossible
I just put a new clutch in last week, i drove it fora a while with no problems, now i hear the tranny whining, and from a stop, first gear is hard to get in the rest have a "drag" to it, Reverse is VERY hard, I have to push with all I got. What gives? I think I put in dextron mercron II instead of III would that do it? what tranny fluid is recomended if the fluid could be the prob? Thanks
Dont think the dextron II could do it but it is possible, Weird things can happend when you add or dont add proper fluids. EX: your diff will pop snap and clatter if you forget to add the posi trac fluid to it. Id change it out immediatley and examine/expirement more from there.
Hate to tell you but your clutch probably isn't fully releasing. If you shut the engine off, put it into gear and restart the engine without releasing the clutch pedal does your car creep forward? If so then the clutch isn't releasing. Could be a pressure plate problem or air in the hydraulics. You didn't cut your flywheel did you? If so then probably too much was taken off. It could also be the pilot bushing (or bearing) sticking to the input shaft, did you grease it? The wrong fluid would probably cause gear clash, but not in reverse or first when everything is stopped. Did you check the thickness of the clutch disc compared to the original? Was it installed the right direction? Good luck.

If you can go through the gears ok with the engine off, but can't with it on, the problem is your clutch is not fully releasing. Reverse usually has no synchronizers, so it is always the hardest gear to engage (also why BIGKerneL44 sometimes has to let the car creep a little and it will go into reverse-that's normal).
