Help with EGR and AIR removal.
Help with EGR and AIR removal.
Well about this time next month i will be replacing the motor and transmissoin mounts and while im in there i would like to remove the egr and air system from my car. Now i dont have to worry about emmissions, i have now cats anymore by the way, and since my egr system is already throwing a code i might as well remove it. I will be useing this website to remove the AIR system. http://www.zmydust.com/airpump.htmlNow here are my questions. And removing the EGR system is just unbolting the pipe and valve and then blocking the holes with plates. Correct me if im wrong. Here are my questions.
1. On the egr removal what go i do with the solenoid and any vacuum lines?
2. I know that removing the AIR system will throw a code but will it cause a miss or anything that affects driveability until it get the computer retuned.
3. While i have the headers out i was thinking of just using a cut-off wheel to remove both the AIR tubes and the EGR tube oin the headers itself. Now can i just weld those holes shut and grind it down with the rest of the headers to make it look good. I dont see why not. I am a pretty good welder so it shouldnt be a problem.
4. I will also be purchasing a stainless steel cutout like seen at the bottom of the page here. I will also be putting on a DMH electic cutout.

My question is can i just weld this to the end of my Pacesetter y-pipe and cut the stock i-pipe so it just clamps onto the end of the cutout like it used to clamp onto the stock y-pipe when it was stock.
That is all the questions i have for now and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Help with EGR and AIR removal.
1. You can remove the solenoid (= DTC code/SES light) and remove the vacuum lines. Simply put a vacuum cap over the nipple on the side of the intake manifold that you remove the EGR solenoid vacuum line from. You could put a resistor in the solenoid harness connector to avoid that particular code.
2. AIR only runs a few minutes at startup to help the cats warm up faster. Removing it will not affect driveability, and will not improve performance.
3. Why not plug the AIR and EGR systems in a "non-destructive" manner. There is a plate available for the EGR connection on the #8 primary, and you can simply unscrew all the AIR parts and plug the holes with the correct $2 fittings. If your headers are coated, you'll ruin the coating by welding, if they aren't coated, they should be.

Re: Help with EGR and AIR removal.
My headers are not coated. And i wanted to delete the tubes instead of blocking them off to clean up the top of the headers a little bit. Also i wanted to remove the EGR and AIR because they are no longer doing me any good so why not loose a little engine bay clutter.
