Your suggestion about fixing radiators right is good, but in this case wrong.

If you get an actual shop manual and read the coolant procedure you will find that I am right. Add two pellets, no mistake, GM designed it this way.

Fair enough, allways learning something around here

I stay right above the 160 mark on highway cruising. In traffic it never goes above the half mark. I was stuck in 4 hours of traffic in 80 degree weather and still it didnt go above 210. I have a cowl hood though and i think that contributes alot to my car running so cold. I also noticed everyone mentioning 2 gallons of coolant. I put in a half gallon and even less water. Is something wrong? I need to fluch it out again becuase my coolant is brown. I guess they PO tried to use stop leak or whatever. I think i will run straight water and flush/drain every day until it's clear. I am determined to mechanically maintain my car better than anyone else

NOT TRUE. I have a 96 Z A4 and it says use Dexicool only right there in the engine compartment and in the manual. I use dexicool at a 50/50 mix, because I trust the engineers at GM. There are quite cautious about everything else, so I think I'll trust them on coolant. Just FYI.

Now that is strange, I believe you, chemistry can pull some tricks.

I did a little checking on the web and the highest percentage prestone says to run is 70%.

Adding antifreeze depresses the freezing point of water, but once the concentration gets high it is more like you are adding water to antifreeze and the freezing point starts to rise.

I did a little more checking and it looks like the freezing point of pure anti-freeze is around 20 degrees F. A 60/40 mix freezes at about -70 dregrees F.

Major difference, here is a link I am quoteing from.

I don't care what the manuals says in this particular case. If my system can run leak free without any stop leak, then I don't need it.
