Help with Cooling Fans

Lastnight I was out in my car and the temp was around 210-220 and I noticed 1 fan was running well a few mins later it got hot 240-260 =( because it was low on water but the 2nd fan never came on =( and now I want to be able to turn the fans on either with a switch or when the key is on so if this is possible please let me know. Also How can i check the fans to make sure they both work??

P.S. I looking for someone to help Tune my car prefer Dyno tuned but I do have a laptop and the cables. If you can help me please let me know and I will sent you a list of everthing done to my motor.

Thanks alot

Letting your car get to 235 degrees isn't exactly the best thing for it. There are basically two directions you can go to keep the car cool. I spent $18 and got a 160* thermostat, and adjusted the cooling fans with the HppIII my friend is letting me borrow. Pcmforless.com or Madwolf can tune your PCM for lower running temps too. The other way is to buy a manual fan switch (SLP) for like $60, and you can run the fans on low/high whenever you want. Do a search...tons of info

Just put in a manual fan switch, i love mine.. dont go paying $70 or whatever SLP sells them for.. if you can wire in a stereo you can do the fan switch.. its about $15 worth of parts from Radio Shack. Piece of cake!

hey guy, i would just go with a fan switch. its pretty quick and simple and cheap. shoebox has a guide on how to hook it up real quick and that way you can turn both high and low on and off as you please. even without the car running. nice feature at the track.

You have a 96? Is it converted to OBD-I? Otherwise you won't be able to use Tunercat. Their only version is OBD-I right now. Using programming is better, IMO, than a fan switch if you don't need to turn the fans on in other than driving situations.

You could permanently ground the green and blue leads to the relays and the fans would always be on. You could pull the relays and permantly jumper 12v in the relay slot, too. Don't see why you would want to do that. IMO, a bad thing to do. The fans are not needed all the time. On OBD-II cars, it would throw trouble codes.

If you were low on water and running high temps you probably have another problem other then the fans. I'd start by draining the system and refilling it with the recommended 50/50 mix and be sure to open the valves so you dont get air in the system
