On the way home today I went to shift into 4th and it wouldn't go, I then tried back into 3rd, no go, let go of clutch pumped it twice, still no go! Then I coasted to a side street and stopped. I tried from a stop and could not get it into any gear, so i turned the car off and on and still could not! I then turned the car off again, it shifted just fine into all gears with clutch pressed and car off, so I put it into first and started the car (leaving the clutch in ofcourse) I heard some very strange sounds that are hard to describe and the car hesitated to start, after that everything was fine. I dont want this to happen again what could have been the problem??

 

It could be several things.I had about the same thing happen to me. It turned out to the shift fork in the transmission on my 94 Z28. I also had a 94 Formula Firebird that a roll pin broke inside the transmission that caused it not shift. My advise is when you find the the problem, get a better shifter if you do not all ready have one. I bought a Hurst billet shifter for mine and it 100% better now. Before if I was shifting hard (like racing) I would miss 3rd gear often now that is totally eliminated.
