Help, Car is retarded.

97 T/A WS6 Emissions deleted, AC deleted. New Opti, ICM, Coil. Plugs and wires on the way for tomorrow, When the engine is cold it runs fine. After it warms up it misfires around 4400 RPM and slowly the misfire gets lower, Today while it was idleing it shut off completely, SES light comes on and will go off after its been sitting awhile. Help.

Should have had a flashing SES light and a stored P0300 for the misfire condition. Is it possible you have an OBD-I conversion?

Since you have the AC deleted, a code for the AC would be normal - or did you have the AC programmed out? If the SES light came on, there has to be a record of the code.

Sounds like a heat soak condition, and the most likely candidates would be the IC Module and the optical module in the Opti. But both of those would set codes.

Its weird, another problem is that I'll go to start the car and turn the ignition to the on position and everything lights up. When I put it to start position sometimes everything will die gauges, lights, radio everything. I assume the PCM or whatever reset itself, if I pop the hood or slam the door power will come back on which I assume is the ignition switch, but I don't think that has an effect on the misfire.

The car is OBD2. I'll hook a scanner up to it when I start it next time and watch for codes as it dies. SES light will come on after the car has run for awhile, a little bit later the check gages light comes on. I haven't programmed anything out.

The check gauges light has nothing to do with the PCM. It's tripped by the readings of the dash gauges. When the check gauges light comes on, you should see one of your gauges headed for the red.

Losing power via the key should not clear the PCM. There is a constant feed to the PCM from the battery, via the "PCM BAT" fuse.

Odd, Nothing was headed for the Red. This car is annoying.

also, why is guages mis-spelled gages on the dash?

Must be a 97 thing... my 94 says "Check Gauges" on the dash. However, the Owner's Manual uses "gage", except for the diagram of the "check gauges" light, which says "gauges". Webster's lists "gage" as an alternative spelling of "gauge". "Guage" is not a word, at least not according to Webster's.

Yeah I mistyped gauges. Anyway I got it scanned today. I let the car run for about 30 minutes and it shut off, I got a code "low resolution".

If it its the Opti I'm going to be pissed, it will be my 4th one, The newest one is OEM GM from Cromer. 2 others were autozone. Why does it do it only when warm?

Its the cam position signal from the optical sensor/module in the Opti. Sounds like the module is "heat soaking" and breaking down at high temp.
