Help with cam install & timing chain
Help with cam install & timing chain
When I took the cam out I thought I was at top dead center, could still be. The crank shaft is in the correct place but I was pretty sure the dowel on the cam was at 9 o'clock, and the dot marker at 12 o'clock but all the pictures I have seen says reinstall at 3 o'clock and that would put the dot marker at 6 o'clock. Is there a posibility that the dot marker and cam where at 12 & 9.
Also I'm instaling a cloyes double roller chain. The crank shaft sprocket doesn't seem to go all the way back, also there is not enough of the key for the crank sensor plate to connect to
does it take alot of force to get the crank shaft sprocket on ?

Re: Help with cam install & timing chain
I beleive the crank sprocket should be at 12 o'clock and the cam sprocket should be at 6 o'clock. When u rotate the crank and cam together with the chain on the 2 dots on each sprocket should meet with each other as it comes around. U cant mess up putting on the cam sprocket becuase of the peg on the opti. As the new sprocket goes they may have sent u the wrong one since u have the differant key on the crank to accept the reluctor wheel. It should just slide right on with no force, have u matched it up with the stock one and see if they are similar?

Re: Help with cam install & timing chain
also, to answer the rest of your questions.....
when you have the cam in the car the dowel "should" be near the 3 o'clock position, making the cam sprocket timing mark in the 6 o'clock position. then you crank sprocket needs to be in the 12 o'clock position.
the cranck gear is very hard to get on and takes some force...usually i throw mine in the oven for a little bit while other just take a hammer and lightly hit the gear on while going around the crank snout.
