HELP! barely starts after cam
Looks more and more like I am going to have to just take the opti off and take a look. The weird thing is I started it last night and it ran and idled on its own for about 10 minutes at about a thousand rpm. Then it just stalled and wouldn't fire again. She was still smoking out the back though.
Programming will not make it run that bad. It may not run perfect but it will still run pretty normal on a hotcam with no problems. I ran my car on stock programming for almost a year on a cc305.
I assume you are 100% positive that everything is hooked back up right. And I mean 100%.... you didnt swap inj harnesses around or something did ya? cyl 2 harness on 4 injector and 4 harness on 2 injector? All vacuum ports closed off?
First you should go over the valve adjustment again... It really sounds like you have them way too tight. I always us the rocker methind. Turn the crank untill the first lifter comes up to the top, then adjust the other one. Turn crank untill the one you just adjusted comes up, then adjust the first one. Move on to the next cyl.
FWIW, if you tightened till the push rod stopped turnning between your fingers then they are so tight that the valves are hanging open. tighten them untill you feel all clearance between rocker and pushrod is gone and stop! If your spinning them back and forth then this point will be just when you feel a slight drag on the pushrod. Then turn 1/4 turn more and stop..... lock it down and move on.
If you have all the valves adjusted properly then you and you are 100% positive the cam timing isnt off by a tooth then you may have an ignition problem.
But from the way you described it I really thing you have the valves just set too tight, a major vacuum leak, or cam to crank timing is off.

Well I have backed off the rockers to the point where they are fairly noisy. I am almost 100% the cam timing is right on. I allready changed the intake gaskets again. How can I check for a vacuum leak.

OPTI!!!. I had the same problem. Well TWICE. First time I put on a new opti and it started for like 5 secs. and never caught fire again. I tore down engine to check timing and all that stuff. Finally put old opti on and it fired right up. Ran the old opti til I took it out for some 6500 shifts and got it home turn the car off and it never started again til the next morning. I drove it about 10 miles more got it in the garge and it never started. I got no spark so I odered other opti and its been running ever since.
