no spark?

Well I backed off all the rockers... no effect I checked the cam timing it is right on. However I don't seem to be getting any spark to the #1 plug(only one I checked so far). Why would I not have spark???

Well I had my old coil sitting around so I switched the two... still the same problems. I am getting some spark, when you crank the engine occasionally it starts to fire and then quits. No I have not had the car tuned yet.

Is it sparking on all cylinders? Or when it tries to start is it just a few making it die? You got everything plugged back in right after the install?

A 93 car running anything but a stock cam will run like absolute *** with out tuning. Madwolf or someone from PCMforless explain this please.

So it could be tuning??? Yep everything is plugged back in and yes occasionally it does fire but will only run above 1500-2000rpm(real choppy).

Well I have tried a new coil and new ignition module neither had any effect. Could improper tuning cause the plugs not to fire?

I actually was running the stock tune on a ported head/hotcam 93 for a very short time and it ran fine.

I've also ran the stock tune on a ported head/hotcam '94 and sprayed a 175 on top of it and it ran fine.

Just FYI...

If the engine sits for awhile the lifters will bleed down. Tightening to zero lash with colapsed lifters is too tight. I had to readjust mine after running the engine for awhile and building oil pressure.

Ironically enough, I had my entire engine apart down to the block for almost 3 weeks. When I put it all together, I left everything as is and did the zero lash then 1/4 turn on all of them. (Making sure that they were all in the closed position of course) And it was a perfect adjustment. I didn't build up the lifters at all. Now, I know what you are saying. That they will be too tight, but either mine didn't bleed down for some reason or it was a freak occurence. I don't know if it was in this thread or not, but adjusting valves is almost a black art. Some people have the talent and some do not.

Are you sure you installed the opti dowel pin correctly? It should have slid in with NO resistance. I made this mistake and the car did exactly what you described..
